Targeted...

I can not believe it. I have been targeted by the DET for starting teaching next year with a permanant job. Hopefully I will prove to be worthy of the placement, and not disappoint anyone or anything like that.

I will be going to a small Central School in Central Western NSW. They haven't had a HSIE teacher (Social Sciences) in 9 years, and so I will be the first permanant HSIE teacher since 1996. The other teachers have had to cover the subjects themselves. What a strain. I will be teaching by stage, too, not by year, because there aren't enough students, really, to break each stage up into years (there are less than 20 in stage 4 and just over 20 in stage 5 [or vice versa]). That will be interesting, because that means a two year rotational program. I've heard that one of the teachers that has been teaching Geography for the last few years had made a program up recently, and it will be nice to see what that is like.

Anyway, I can't say more than I have accepted the place. It is a 6 point school (which will mean something to those that know about the point system), and I am looking forward to the challenge that will be occuring over the next few years.

The Cricket, again...

I went to the cricket again this last Sunday. Tickets...I love ING. Anyway...on with the game.

Unfortunately, NSW lost. They played a really good innings (batting first) - they scored 275, with Phil Jacques scoring 152 (not out) off 141 balls, as well as getting 22 (6, 2, 4, 2, 2, 6) runs off the last over of the innings. That could be because Brett Lee made him run 2 runs three times, when they were pushing it a little bit. :) But it was good to see. Dad didn't think that the NSWelshman had made an unbeatable score, but I thought that it might be good enough. It wasn't.

Matthew Hayden did some very good damage to the great bowler Glenn McGrath's opening overs. Ouch. Really, really bad. He was going for 9 an over after only 4 overs. However, when he returned later in the innings he got 2 wickets (one was a good bowled), but he still went for 66 runs after 10 overs. Hayden, though, was in very good form, and hit a wonderful 80-odd in a short time. I don't have the stats right here...they are in my room. Perren was also a very good batter for the team, scoring 90-odd, so, thank goodness they finally got him out. However, the damage had been done. Brett Lee, though, was on a hat-trick at one stage, and it looked as though, with 9 or so runs to get, the Queenslanders might be in a bit of trouble, losing about three or four wickets for thirty runs at the most.

Anyway, the Queenslanders got the score with 5 overs left to bowl. So, NSW lost pretty convincingly. However, it was a really good game to have seen, and well worth sticking around until the end, even for the loss being confirmed. NSW is still going well in the points scoring, and hopefully will continue that way throughout the summer. Same in the Pura Cup matches they have played so far.

The Cricket

I am a fan of cricket. I love the game. I am just not very good at it. But that doesn't let me not enjoy watching the cricket on the tellie or live. Like when NSW versed SA in a one-dayer last Sunday at Bankstown Oval. I got a ticket for the game and so I went.

The game began with the NSW-men putting the SA in to bat. Mr McGrath only got one wicket, but that was alright. He went off after the 10 overs, being super-subbed (don't ask me by whom, though...I can't remember). Mr McGill, Mr Lee, Mr Bracken and Mr S Clarke did very well in getting the wickets. However, I was disappointed when Mr Blewitt (of SA) got out when he wasn't. A pity, but good for the NSW-men, as he was scoring very well. In the end, NSW had SA out for 245.

The NSW innings began brilliantly after the batsmen got their eye in. I thought at one stage that NSW would get the score within the 40 overs to gain the bonus point, but, unfortunately, with wickets falling a little quickly in the middle of the 50 overs, NSW had to bat a little more conservatively, and only made the score with a ball to spare. Mr Bracken, in the third last over, helped the score balance with the number of balls to be faced by hitting a wonderful six. However, with a wicket falling in the second last over, it stopped the runs coming so freely. 'Dizzy' Gillespie did well in his bowling, getting a wicket as well as taking two catches for SA. However, that couldn't stop out team winning.

Well done to NSW. I hope that this weekend they can do as well against the Tassie Tigers at the SCG. And I hope that this weekend when I go to watch that I don't get suburnt like I did at BO. That was the only disagreeable thing about the day.

Finally another post...

Yes, I have finally got my act together to post another comment.

I went to two 21st birthday parties. I enjoyed myself immensely at both. One was really good because I got to catch up with some friends I hadn't seen in quite some time. The other was cold, except around the HUGE bonfire. That was good.

Mum and I went on the trip around North Eastern NSW and South Eastern Qld. We went to the 21st that was really cold while on this trip. It was fairly cool in Qld while we were there (expecting it to be a little warmer...but there you go...). However, Mum and I had fun on our trip. We were thinking of going out to Dubbo and Parkes to visit 'The Dish', but decided to give up on that idea, due to having had enough away from home after ten days of living out of a suitcase.

Apart from that, life hasn't been really exciting around here. Dad, Mum and I went to a 50th last weekend to celebrate the birthday of my Uncle's wife. That was good - got to catch up with cousins, and wish on in particular a good wedding for this weekend coming.

Anyway...enough for now. Will post pictures of the trip up here some time, after I have learned how to do it. :) Still not good at it.

21st Birthday Parties

This last weekend I attended the 21st birthday of one of my good friends, Kirstyn. She actually turned 21 about two weeks ago, but because of everyone finishing off Uni for the semester, and things like that, she didn't have it until now.

Her family are really nice. They organised a home DVD of pictures of her growing up (that ran for about 75 minutes) set to music, I thought was a really good idea. Mum has done portfolios of photos for the three of us, but a DVD, that is really inspirational. They collected photos from friends and relatives and set them to a song or two for each year of her life. It was done in a slideshow arrangement, and really well thought out.

I had to travel to up to Lake Macquarie for the birthday, which is about two hours away from where I live in Sydney. It was a good trip, though, because I didn't have any rain. However, there was a lot of wind - those isobars were really close together. :) The Mooney Mooney bridge, though, wasn't too bad, it was other areas where the wind could get in and be annoying which was more difficult. Also, the other drivers on the road! Grrr...some of them can be annoying. Maybe they have French ancestors (j/k).

Anyway, all in all, I had a good weekend, staying overnight at some relations living up in the area (only five minutes from the party house, too), and having an enjoyable time catching up with some friends that I haven't seen for a couple of years, since they finished uni and moved away. I hope that I have as much fun at my next 21st birthday party that I've been invited to. :)

Home again, home again, jiggidee jog...

No, I don't care if I have spelt that word, wrong, either. :)

I am home again in Sydney. Hopefully, all is well on the Uni front, and I will definantly be graduating in October. Will find out on the 18/19th of this month for sure.

Prac finished well, I received several Highly Commended, and one Very Satisfactory from my teacher, making my report look very good. But the kids seemed very easy. I did let them go a little bit the last day of term, but that was only Year 9, and they had nothing better to do. Not really, but I had already set up to change rooms, and so...Year 8, though, were on a sugar high from the previous class, so I had a fun time trying to get them to sit down and listen and learn about World Poverty (no, not World Peace). Which, of course, they aren't totally interested in. But it was their last Geography double for the year, so they were overjoyed...which I can understand. I think, though, that they should make Geography and History run for the whole year, not for one semester each year for the first two of High School. Oh well. I guess it works best that way.

I got back to Sydney last Sunday. Life is alright. I haven't done much since I got back. I got in touch with the person that finds me casual work during the holidays, and hopefully I'll be able to get some work through them until I am approved by the Dept.

I have a twenty-first birthday to go to tomorrow. That is up on the central coast, around L. Mac. area. Staying with relos overnight, so I don't have to travel home, or impose upon the birthday girl's family tomorrow night after the big do. Also, it means that I get an early night and get away early from there the following day. I have another twenty-first to go to in Dorrigo on the 13 of next month. I get all these invitations from people at Uni, and I don't know how I will sometimes get around to getting to them. Mum and I, though, are planning a trip away from Sydney, which will take in Dorrigo at that time, so that's alright. :)

Anyway, got to go. Seeya' round!

Two weeks over, Two weeks to go...

Well, during the last two weeks I have been doing my practicum at Maitland, and it has been going well. I have had the supervision of five classes (one year eight, two year nines, and two year tens)(maybe this is the time to mention that there are only two classes for each year in high school, too). It has been good to practice in a small school in a suburban region, but I can tell that, because the kids have been pretty good, I'm going to get into a few bad habits that I would not likely develop in a state school. Anyway...enough about that.

The last you knew about the group critiques, my group had to do it again. Well, we did it, and we did it just fine. Apparently we got 8/10 for it, which is tremendous, considering what we got the last time round. And considering my group for the presentation got 23/25, I'm going to pass this thing afterall (hopefully - I still have the essay to complete and hand in).

Anyway, I'm home for this long weekend, which is good. I'm not getting any of the work done that I wanted to do, but it is good to be home and have time with family, and just relax for a moment. Also, see the chiropractor and get a few adjustments done. That was very good too, even though I'm not sure that they have stayed.

Okay then. Nothing more, really, to talk about. Seeya' round.

Star Wars - Episode Three

What can I say without giving too much away? Hmmm...

I went and saw 'Star Wars' last night, and enjoyed it fairly well. It was better than one and two, but there are certain things, scenes, that could have been better done, acted, or scripted. One thing that I didn't really think was well done was the point when Anakin became an apprentice to the Dark Side. Yes, you see it happen, but the scene that it occurred in, it...well...wasn't quite right for me. And then there is the whole twins that look full term babies, but, well, Padme looks about seven months when she gives birth....Hmmm...

But all in all, a much better film than the first two. Better scripted, better thought out perhaps. Episode Six is still my favourite, but I will have to see Episode Three again to actually make up my mind fully, and to understand what happens in it properly, to make sure that I don't judge it any more harshly than what I have done already.

This last Weekend

The last two and a half days have seen me travel (drive) around 780kilometres...just for a birthday party. You say it sounds silly? Well, it was a surprise party for my Uncle. He turned 60, and it was worth going. I had to travel from Armidale down to Maitland, and the traffic was fine until I got to around Singleton. Then all the shift workers, etc, from the mines and other ajoining companies start heading home, and I started finding the trip frustrating. But all in all, the travel both there and back was good, and fun. I love to drive the New England Highway, especially the mountains (the Moonbies) between Tamworth and Armidale.

I stayed overnight at my Uncle Brian's, where I saw 'Die Another Day' for the first time. Oh boy. Very Bond. Need I say more?! But that was good. And then the following morning I got to have a slight tour of the school that I am going to do prac at (starting on Friday, 27th [this Friday]) and then I moved on to where the party was going to be. It was a lunch, so that everyone had plenty of time to get there and get home again afterwards, especially if they were travelling from Sydney. Uncle Bob was totally surprised. It would have been nice to have known how they were going to surprise him, so that the video could capture him properly, but still, just to see his face when he first hopped out of the car. It was good. Uncle Bob enjoyed the party very much, and was talking more to people than paying attention to getting something to eat, as he hadn't seen some people for a long while.

I had to leave the party at about 4:30pm to be able to get back to Armidale in good time, and they were still going strong when I left. Some people were leaving at the same time, because they had to, but I doubt that Mum and Dad would have left before they had started cleaning up things with my cousin and some of his relations on his mother's side. I got back to Armidale at about 20 to 10pm without my car overheating.

Yes, I thought for a little while that I would not be able to go on to Armidale when I got to Tamworth. From about Murrurundi onwards the engine light was on. I thought...I'll stop at Tamworth for dinner, and if it is still on when I get to Armidale, there is a problem for sure, especially if I check the oil and water and there isn't a problem. I had stopped at Scone for a drink, but obviously my car wasn't happy that I had missed the usual Muswellbrook stop and pushed on to Scone and then only stopped at Tamworth after that. The light was off from Tamworth to Armidale, so obviously it wasn't anything to worry about. I'll just have to make sure everything is fine when I travel down on Thursday afternoon to Maitland again.

SO, that is the most exciting thing that has happened this weekend. The party, and then my car mucking up a little bit. I've been watching the digitalised Digital version of 'Star Wars' (the original trilogy) on DVD over the last week. I am really displeased with George Lucas changing the ending of 'Jedi'. Not Happy Jan. They changed Anakin's GHOST!!! How could they? Anyway...best not say any more.

Played soccer this morning. That was good. It was against our good rivals, Duval College, and we beat them 4-0. Marvellous Effort That. They were, however, down players for about the first 20-25 minutes (30 minute halves). We scored another goal after they had got more players, but we didn't score any in the second half. But it was a good game with a bit of rough and tumble happening, but that is what happens when we play our best rivals. :)

Anyway...got to go and do some more work. I have to start planning for the next few weeks, but I don't think that I can do much until I get to prac. But I do have three assignments that I have to hand in during practicum, so that will be fun. Woohoo! Hooroo!

It's a lovely day today...

Well, actually, it is. For the last three days Armidale has been shrouded in terrible, miserable weather, not knowing sometimes whether it wanted to rain or not. However, today the sun is shining after that interlude, making it seem as though the Weather was just getting ready for Winter.

For the last week my life has not been that exciting. I have been getting ready for a group presentation on Monday with my group, and have attended a movie night. Exciting...

The presentation is for the same class that I did the group critique for. The class got moved to Monday due to the prac teaching day most of the people in the class have on Wednesday. Anyway, yesterday was the final time the group got together to discuss the presentation before it occurs, and we should go just fine, I think. We are all on the same page and know exactly what parts of the presentation we are leading, etc, so it should all be good. :) We are doing our presentation on 'Gender in the classroom' and the guy in our group (the person that I have had afternoon tea with) has become known as the 'sexist cynic' of our group (just kidding...but, oh boy, he sure knows how to make controversial statements!!!) and if he comes out with some of the statements that he made yesterday in the presentation, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an uproar from the women in our class. We had morning tea at his place yesterday to finalise everything, and it was supposed to have started at 10:30am. Twenty minutes later and the other two in the group finally arrived. But hey! It was all good.

The movie night was held also at the guy's place who is part of the group. He is a 'Star Wars' fanatic...like...completely obsessed. The first day the CD soundtrack came out of the movie, he had it. Sad, sad, sad...but the movies were fun to watch again. There were about six of us there sitting infront of the tellie watching Episode's I and II, and making wonderful comments about the scriptwriting of the love scenes and generally paying out Anakin. So much fun paying him out. We came to the conclusion that the reason why he turned to the dark side was due to him having an Oedipus Rex Syndrome. :) Great reasoning.
We started watching the movies at about 8:30pm and didn't finish watching them until nearly 1am, which is fine for me as I'm generally up until that time anyway. However, that didn't stop me trying not to yawn through the Anakin-Padme scenes! What were the scriptwriters thinking??? Or weren't they?? Question will never be solved, I think.
Two of the people who were watching it had never seen an epiode of 'Star Wars' (for shame) but they both enjoyed themselves (possibly due to the outrageous comments made sometimes by the people who had seen the movies numerous times) and are thinking of seeing Episode III when it comes out. I don't think that I can be bothered seeing it straight away (it will be packed cinemas for weeks!), but I am definitely not seeing the midnight session Wednesday/Thursday, having 6 hours worth of lectures on Thursday to attend. Woohoo... Episodes IV, V, and VI still rule in my book, though...and I think, no matter what, will always rule for the Saga.

I have finally found out where I'm going to prac, and that is Maitland, so I will be staying with my Uncle and his wife, which should be good, I think.

I have got my two artworks back from the SFK reps and one of them had some marks on it, as I thought they probably would. I tried to erase them, but one of them is in perminant pink...who know from what. But...hmmm...yay...at least it isn't a bright pink mark, hardly noticeable in some lights...

Oh, and the price of petrol has come down a little bit since last night. Instead of being 116.9c/L, it's only 112.9! Oh joy, oh rapture! The oil price must have hit an all time record 'low' for that to happen. Yeah, right! But hey! It'll be nice to have the petrol at that price for a few days, at least. It generally doesn't fluctuated in Armidale as it does in Sydney.

Okay then. Nothing else to say, so seeya'!

Another Weekend Over...

This weekend saw a few things happen in the sporting arena for me. Firstly, there was NERF on (the women's version of AFL - you can still tackle people when they have the ball, there are only two goal posts, simple things like that). That was fun. I only played three of the five games that were on (only 6 of the colleges put in to play in the end). I decided not to play the final game today because of a couple of reasons. Mainly, they were going to have a heap of the soccer girls go and play that I would have only been on for one quater at the most, as well as other things.

Yesterday the NERF comp started, and I played in the first two games. We won the first and drew the second and (I found out later) we won the third game that was played. I didn't play the third game because I had to be somewhere else - the UNE netball courts. No, I haven't signed up to play netball this season, but at the rate it's going, I may as well have. For the last two weekends I have been asked to play. Last weekend, there was soccer (MB comp) and a forfeit (weekend netball comp). This weekend, we played with only five players (seven is good!!) and lost terribly. But at least the team we played were very bad. If we had had a full team we might have given them a run for their money.

So, yes, my weekend has been NERF and netball. I haven't signed up to play soccer this year for a couple of reasons. I don't want to do my ankles an injury (after last weekend's efforts, they were slightly swollen and clicky...so...no...not a good idea, I think...) as well as me being in college for only another three weeks before I go on prac. No point, I think. Plus, they will call me up if they need the numbers, I'm sure. They can usually rely on my joining in just for the fun of it.

I still don't know where prac is at the moment. Was supposed to find out by either the end of last week or at the beginning of this week. Well...let's hope that they have their act together in the Prac Experience Office and have a notice up about it tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. I need to contact the school as quickly as possible to start planning a unit of work, if not two.

Well, there is nothing really much else to say. Talk to you some other time, then.

Group Critiques...part deux

Well...received the mark back today, and, as predicted, did not go well. I must admit, though, I was surprised about some of the comments the lecturer put on the page, as he generalised the whole group, rather than stated some true facts about 'Yay Annoying one' that went and did his little lecture. I think he must have been getting ready for his presentation today (the one that did the lecture in our critique) because he pretty much did the same thing this week - lecture - as he did last week. Oh, for a shot gun, or any other type of weapon, for that matter. Don't we all feel that way about someone one time or another?

Last Wednesday, the other person in the group and I got together for afternoon tea to discuss the problems that happened and to talk about other things as well. Well, we did it again this week as well, and it was good. Lots of laughter as his flat mates joined in the conversation as well, so that was good fun. It was good to discuss the problems of the marking and other things about the critique without the problem of being eavesdropped on by people who could report it back to 'Yay Annoying One'.

Anyway, my art and craft pieces did not get put in the competition, so it would have been nice to have been told and had my pictures returned to me before now, but, hey! No hard feelings to them. They must be awfully busy as they are (yeah, right). It would have been nice to have received my pictures back, though, because then I would have been sure that they were in a safe place and that they weren't on someone's floor or anything like that, getting grotty or anything like that.

Okay...life at college is being a real pain to me at the moment, I know, so I will shoosh up now and leave you. Ciao!

Group critiques...the bane of my life at the moment

As you would have read, last week, onWednesday, I had a group critique to present with two other people. Well...

It started off just fine. Two out of the three of us were the ones that began the critique, with the other one just hanging back until his 'part' in it. Well, I tried to get the other person who was starting with me to do what I wanted them to do, but as this was probably their first ever Education Faculty presentation, they weren't quite sure what they were supposed to do. But it turned out well, the class were talking, and the readings were being brought in through questions that related, rather than asked whether they had read the readings.

Then the person that hung back started their bit of the critique. They didn't critique, they lectured. When it had been going for about five minutes, I felt my brain going to mush, and I was trying to keep up so that I could place relevant comments in at the appropriate spots, but I just made a mull of that, so I stopped. His 'lecture' went for about twenty to twenty-five minutes (a good part of the presentation - only goes for about forty to fifty minutes at the most), and we, the other presenter and I, really only wanted him to shut up from about half way through onwards. He turned our brains to mush, and we had to turn our peers' brains back on afterwards! That was tough...

However, I hope that we will be able to recover our lost marks (yes, we have lost marks due to the poor critiquing that occurred...and the poor interaction with the class - not getting the class involved! HELLO!!! I had them involved when I was leading the discussion...but anyway!) during this Wednesday's or next Wednesday's tutorial period. Oh, please let the marks get better! I really didn't like the sound of what our lecturer said this morning about it. Oh well...

Oh, and Art and Craft...I don't know still whether either of my art works have been put in, but if they have, I really don't think they will get anywhere. I've seen a couple of the sketches and they look pretty impressive. Oh well...again...

Saturday, April 30, 2005

Well...what do you know...Life DOES go on...

I did not make it into Small Music Ensemble, but that is all okay. I'm not really worried about it, but it would have been nice to have been in it just one more time. It just gives me more time to do up coming assignments that I have to have completed by the end of my prac. Also, I think Small Music would have been during the first week of my prac, so I would not have been able to perform in it anyway. Too inconvenient. So...as the title suggests...

Today the Women's Sporting Competition (mentioned in the previous post) had their soccer comp. Each college plays the other once. We did brilliantly today, as (there being eight colleges) we drew three games and won four. This means that we came out with 18 points in the end (3=win; 2=draw; 1=loss). This is a large improvement on last year's effort, where I don't think we probably won more than one or two, and who knows whether we drew any at all. Considering most colleges at least lost one game (I believe), this may place the college as first for soccer for the year. That would be nice. The Men's Sporting Competition soccer is on tomorrow. Who knows how well they will go, but I hope they go just as well as we did. So far, overall, D&S are coming first or second in the Women's Competition; it would be nice to maintain that form throughout the year.

Apart from having to go out and buy foundation for the first time since my Year 12 formal, I don't think there is anything really exciting to say. Oh, and...they didn't have the type that Mum and I got back in 1998 (it had been discontinued), so I had to go to a different type...but fortunately it is in the same brand. :)

Anyway...no more interesting news from down here, where the weather is a balmy 19*C tomorrow (23*C today), with a low of 5*C tonight. :) Seeya'!

College Life

Well, with life back at college getting back into the groove of things again after a three week holiday, it is time to recount some things that I have been up to for the last week and a half.

We have, as part of an intercollegiate competition, something called the Sir Frank Kitto Cultural Competition between the seven colleges at UNE. This competition is to encourage students at Uni that aren't into sport or other activities like that, but are more into art, craft, public speaking, debating, writing poetry or stories and acting. So far this year, the competition has had the public speaking section (already discussed in a previous post). This term is full of activities, such as Art and Craft, Theatre Sports, Short Story and Poetry and Small Music Ensemble.
Because I enjoy both the cultural and sporting competitions I enter in events in both that I know I can help the college with. That is why I have given the co-ordinators of this college a couple of pictures that I drew a week ago, hoping that they might be accepted into the inter-college part of the competition after the competition in college to get a place. They are pencil sketches of my left hand. Sounds boring, but let me assure you, drawing your left hand with your right is a fairly hard thing to do, with the light changing, let alone your hand wanting to cramp up every now and then.
Along with this, Small Music Ensemble rehearsals have begun. I don't know whether I will be accepted in among the singers (there are only going to be 6 singers - 15 people only allowed to be on stage for the performance). If I'm not, though, I won't be pining, as I have been in it for the last three years, and I think, with a couple of seconds and a third, it's alright that I won't be in it if that is what they wish - there were 8/9 of us trying out.

I, with two other people, have a group critique that we have to 'present' to the class tomorrow for education. This group critique is to generate discussion about the social justice distinctions in society. Sounds boring? Well, it is. Some of it. It's actually quite interesting in some respects, but when you are reading the same thing over and over again, you get tired of it, as no doubt some of you have already learned. This critique tomorrow is about social classes, and the problems of them in the classroom. I had a good reading to study as part of the group, and the questions I have made up to start discussion on it, I hope will inspire people other than the usual conscientious few take part in discussion. If not, then tough luck. They won't learn to open their mouths to take part in discussion is their own decision. Can't force them.

Anyway, apart from this dreary life of mine, college food has been interesting, and, sometimes, even edible. J/k. Tonight, though, was Indian Night (the kitchen likes to have a theme night every now and then), and it wasn't good. I'm not a huge one for spicy food...and they had chilies in each dish! Woohoo!

Oh well. Life does go on...or so I've been told...
Ciao!

It's Alright!!! I'm Still Alive!!! :)

Just to put you at your ease, Peter.

Life for me has been interesting over the holidays. I went to the Football at Cronulla (I had to back the Sharks that day - they were versing the Bulldogs!) with my friends from Sydney. We had a great time, the Sharks beat the Bulldogs very nicely, and the Bulldogs are maintaining a wonderful form at the moment - losing most of their games! Yay! Unfortunately, St George hasn't won more than one game. Oh well...life goes on.

Last Saturday I got together with my best friend, Emma, and we had a good little browse around Gymea shopping centre, buying a couple of things necessary for life - clothes. Some nice light trackpants for me, so that I don't freeze here in Armidale while going for a walk in the morning (or afternoon). We then went on to Southgate, and I bought some pants for prac. - very necessary.

Prac is about seven and a half weeks away, and then I have my interview, which is booked (just did that) for the 29th of June. It was either that date or the 27th. I still don't know where my prac. is at the moment, but no doubt I should be able to get one of the places that I put down for - Maitland, Singleton, Port Macquarie, or Coonabarabran. Very diverse range of places, I think.

Anyway...back at College, if you hadn't figured that out. Life is going on just the same as usual, pretty boring, and full of work. Anyway...as time is running short, I shall leave you now.

Seeya' round!

Holidays

There have been no developments in the last week of anything exciting happening around here. Lately, I have been on holidays, having driven down from University last Thursday, stopping off at a relative's house for dinner before completing the journey at night. It was an enjoyable trip, and I was happy that I was able to sleep in my own bed after the college bed for the last four weeks.

Hopefully I will be getting together with a few of my Sydney friends, as I have not seen them in quite some time. That should be this weekend some time, as I know that at least one of them is coming to Sydney after having a bit of an absence from here for a while.

Apart from this, and the fact that I have an assignment to finish from Uni, and have been reading my favourite books instead, like is pretty uneventful at the moment. Shall post something when life gets a little more exciting. Ciao for now.

Nearly Time to Go Home Again...

At the end of this week there will be a mass departure from Armidale of all students who wish to go home for the holidays. Yes, that time of the year is upon us again - the time when first term has come nearly to an end. But hey...can I complain about my first term of my last semester? No. It was only four and a half weeks long. Yes, thanks to the early Easter holidays, Uni didn't start until it's usual time this year, but decided to break for the normal Easter holidays - and make term two an awfully long one. Yes, we still have the (roughly) sixteen week term, so...you do the maths for how long term two is.

Over the last two weekends I have been to two graduations which have made me realise how much I am looking forward to graduating myself. It should be great, to finally get out of college and move back home. Oh, wait! That's not what I'm supposed to do. :) But to see good friends depart from Armidale, and me not knowing when I am likely to see them again (not for a couple of years, at least, in one case, I know), it was good to be able to wish them good luck and all that for the future.

I can apply for an interview with the Department of Education and Training anytime this week pretty much so that after my last practicum in June I can go straight into teaching from the beginning of term 3 this year. That will be exciting...interesting...and a bit scary. But it should be good. I might be able to earn a wage soon. Woohoo!

Anyway...nothing else really exciting has happened.

Back at Uni

Well...I've been back at college for the last two weeks. Like is really exciting, I can asure you that.

I have five hours of school a week, and unfortunately, four of those hours are two nine o'clockers on a Wednesday and Thursday. Oh joy. Sometimes, the five tips out to seven, but that will only be some times.

The last couple of weekends, the college has had a couple of functions. Those have been Commencement Dinner, on the first Friday of March, and Thunderbolt's Ball, held just last Saturday. Thunderbolt's Ball is to celebrate the infamous Captain Thunderbolt who terrorised the New England region during the nineteenth century. So, the college inhabitants dress up as country local (or is that yokels?), and have a blazing bonfire, and a band, and lots of alcohol, and a jolly good time.

Since then, there hasn't been much else to write about, except that we have started the year well with the Sir Frank Kitto Cultural events, receiving =1st in the first event - public speaking, held tonight. Well done to our representative.

So long for now, though.

A New Year...

It's January, and the weather is warm. Life is going well.

Some news... Some great news.

Mum and I are going to the Edinburgh Tattoo that is appearing out here, in Australia. It's going to be great. Some friends had to let go their tickets, and so I was fortunate to secure them before they had been handed on to someone else. Woohoo!! So...off to Aussie Stadium next Saturday night, I believe it is.

Apart from that, life has been pretty normal. I've been working a little, getting some money for books for Uni, etc, and so I'll be able to pay for them without any trouble. No more news for now, though.
